SHATTERING

Image
REPORIENTATION SHATTERING "In a city where there is no law, there is no offense"- so the saying goes.  The pages (over a hundred and fifty ) of the Nigerian constitution is filled with  laws, rules and regulations and the consequent repercussions that accompany the  violation of the laws.  However, many of these laws only remain as words in black and white because hardly and seldomly are they enforced.  Everywhere we turn to, we are constantly faced with scenarios of people breaking the law and getting away with it.  The pedestrians by the road side are too impatient to use the crossover bridges. Private and commercial vehicle drivers are in such a hurry for their daily bread that they  have become colour-blind to the red and yellow light on our traffic control systems.  It is a pity that this ugly habit is not only exclusive to people in the nethermost region of the political and social pyramid. It is appalling to discover that even the makers an...

NOT JUST

Image
REPORIENTATION NOT JUST  Injustice is explained by Longman dictionary of Contemporary English as a situation in which people are treated very unfairly and not given their rights. It is a quality relating to unfairness or undeserved outcomes. No greater oppression happens other than this.    Our constitution suggests that no one should be treated on unequal basis because of their wealth, caste, religion, gender and so on but we enjoy doing otherwise, not putting this into practice. The bosses misuse and abuse their posts and power so as to please themselves. Even the ones being ruled do nothing different. The rich rule while the poor serve. The elites enjoy while the masses suffer.     Selfishness remains a major cause of injustice. All that matters to me is me and me alone; every other thing should be out of interest. We never reveal our true colour until we are given a post. That is when we will start revealing our true identity and our actual love for h...

ANCHOR

Image
REPORIENTATION ANCHOR Nigeria is our greatest masterpiece but what we have is fast disintegrating into pieces at an alarming rate owing to our national ignorance. The heterogeneous ethnic groups of ours are supposed to be a huge blessing for national growth and development but what we have is the reality of enmity and hatred growing in such an accelerated rate among the diverse ethnic groups. The reality on ground bears testament to the stunted growth being experienced because of national disunity, corruption, kidnappings, injustice, religious intolerance and other festering social ills that are laying seige to the destiny of Nigeria from every Nigerian.   We need not point accusing finger to any particular ethnic group neither do we need to stand up to name call and shame any personality for our excruciating woes; for the root of all evils in the land is largely the mind of every Nigerian over the years. Then, what is the way out of this national mess? How do we foster nati...

BIAS

Image
REPORIENTATION BIAS To what do we agree From where should we disagree  To the favouritism during recruitment Or from the gender roles in our society To  what do we agree Or from where should we disagree To the preferential treatment in public transport Or from political appointments To what do we agree Or from where should  we disagree To the increase in domestic violence against  female  Or from the progressive number of rape cases  To what do we agree Or from where should we disagree To the inequality Or from the inequity Whether we agree or disagree, it is evident that a gross bias exists in our existence. It varies from time to time, hidden in some places and apparent in  some other places. It has always been there. Who does not understand that our affection for a fowl is that of bone licking and crushing? They want us now to come die over there when we are christened bad people before now. Equality was never in the equation. Racism rods our...

WHEN LIFE MATTERS

Image
REPORIENTATION      WHEN LIFE MATTERS   When life matters; we will not have dilapidated roads If it truly matters; we will understand the gravity of pain in losing a life to road accident When life matters; we will not have epileptic power supply If it truly matters, the understanding of losing a soul due to the failure will come upon us When life matters; we will not owe frontline workers If it truly matters, we will understand that their efficiency will save us a lot When life matters; the well being (mental, physical, social and spiritual) of fellow citizens would be everyone's concern  If it really matters, we would see everyone as our brother When life matters; transparency and integrity will be everyone's watchword  If it matters we will attach importance to virtues We are in a society where we  care about our private pockets alone, not minding the effect of our actions on others. Let us be mindful of what we do to make our p...

FACTUAL CONFORMITY

Image
FACTUAL CONFORMITY "Truth is a fact or belief that is accepted as true." -Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary In the court of law, witnesses are required to 'swear' to telling the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth because that’s the only way justice can be established. Yet, it’s still lies upon lies. The Holy book is believed to be based on truth yet we don’t spit it out. Despite all our devoted time to it,  we find it very difficult to speak the truth; we are so religious but not doing God’s will and that of the state. We neglect the truth and  welcome lies always. Truth is the foundation for a fair and just society, yet governmental agents and private agents still tell lies, or pretend to be what they are not. For the sake of greater goods, we lie to make ourselves seem better and we never think about the consequential troubles that may befall us. We are far from being true to ourselves not to talk of others. We neither understand ourselves nor...

"ARCHITECTED MINDS"

Image
REPORIENTATION                  "ARCHITECTED MINDS" The choreographed scenes and lines ain't bad, at least they are very effective in making us sympathetic.  Our mild part is appealed to, just to have a space; a space to struggle for a take. They know how to get their take and will take every way to lay hold on the spade.  You think they are really serious? Of course very few are. They know what to do and do what is worth doing for a better life. But others are unlike. They love to play with clay on a gay day and mould their desires. The madness of their farmers turns out to be wisdom. They'll still win over and over and again.  Our never real fantasies of Utopia will never cease until we wake up and take the bull by the horns. If your voter's card still has a value less than half of half a bag of rice, you really need help. We war to get the voter's card, we w...
