KOROBAKOROBA

Image
REPORIENTATION KOROBAKOROBA Truth dances to the tune being played by hunger, he begs for survival while deceit has more than enough to eat. Deceit roams the world in the splendour of his flowing agbada suit while truth travels in rags. Deceit is celebrated everywhere life is found and almost none wants to resist him. "Korobakoroba, " the drums play. The rich one pushes the poor, the poor kicks back in anger. Hit me I hit you is the deal but forget not too soon that scars don't always totally clear. "Korobakoroba," the drums sing. Bola, Bala, Beluolisa and many others vandalized a public facility in protest against the government. Bola's brother was involved in a motor accident and the only health facility around was the one they had vandalized. His brother gave up the ghost journeying to a functional facility. "Korobakoroba," the bell rings. Chief Owonikoko was meant to approve the maintenance  fee for the  firetrucks monthly. He enjoyed approvin

WHY

Image
WHY ? A man once told me, “Never be too comfortable in a place, because when you do, it brings destruction”. Deep in thought on what's next in the line of action. A bit of flash here and there, going down history lane, I begin to wonder what manner of life it is. 276 Chibok school girls were kidnapped. The presidential convoy was attacked for the first time in the history of the country. Abuja – Kaduna Rail line bombing. Lagos toll gate END SARS killing on October 20, 2020. Insecurity in the North. Sit at home in the East. Corruption everywhere. The health sector crashing with each passing day. Tertiary institutions going on strike becoming a norm. Labour’s complaints of low pay and the legislators’ huge salaries. Unemployment on the increase. The incessant value drop of the Naira. My heart skips as the question drops “Why did these events occur in the first place?”, “What exactly went wrong?”, “Are we going to continue on this path?”, “When exactly are we going to get it right?”

Stand in the Gap

Image
Stand in the Gap   While it is true that we are not pleased with the current state of things in our nation, indulging in self pity and wishful thinking should not be our recourse. We may find it comforting to point fingers at certain people or systems as the culprit for our woes. But doing this proffers no solution.  Great nations are not great by mistake or mere chances; they became great through years of hardwork and consistent systemic development and education of their citizens. The power of principles is the assurance of reproducibility of results when engaged correctly and appropriately. We do not have to reinvent the wheel - we must simply engage those principles that have been tested over time, one man at a time to get the same result(s).  All it takes is one man, perhaps a few people, to stand in the gap and uphold and enforce godly and moral values such as integrity, fairness, justice, selflessness and much more. An army of a few men can consume a whole nation. All we need

FACE THE PROBLEM

Image
REPORIENTATION FACE THE PROBLEM    A Yoruba adage says "Ma fi ete le pa lapalapa" - Don't treat ringworm instead of leprosy.  As I sat on a bench in my balcony one afternoon, I saw an eagle struggling to fly and wondered what was wrong. It landed on the railings in my balcony and this afforded me the opportunity to give it a close examination. Guess what I discovered! It had a very bad sight and this affected every of its activities. After my discovery, I was supposed to find a way to help its sight but I focused on strengthening its wings, beak and feet so that it would fly and feed well. It is disturbing and baffling to see the root of a problem and decide to treat the effects with all zealousness but leaving the cause. This is what our beloved country has turned into. We let the real deal slide or leave it uncared for to pursue matters that are not important. Rather than proffer solutions to cogent matters that affect us, we become minders of others. Wisdom speaks th
