FACE THE PROBLEM

A Yoruba adage says "Ma fi ete le pa lapalapa" - Don't treat ringworm instead of leprosy.

As I sat on a bench in my balcony one afternoon, I saw an eagle struggling to fly and wondered what was wrong. It landed on the railings in my balcony and this afforded me the opportunity to give it a close examination. Guess what I discovered! It had a very bad sight and this affected every of its activities. After my discovery, I was supposed to find a way to help its sight but I focused on strengthening its wings, beak and feet so that it would fly and feed well.

It is disturbing and baffling to see the root of a problem and decide to treat the effects with all zealousness but leaving the cause.

This is what our beloved country has turned into. We let the real deal slide or leave it uncared for to pursue matters that are not important. Rather than proffer solutions to cogent matters that affect us, we become minders of others.

Wisdom speaks that we tackle root problems before we become the shadow of ourselves

... and for a better Nigeria, I'll face the problem and not become the shadow of myself.
